FLARE A SONY PSP MINI GAME

Sony Playstation First is a student award programme in which University teams compete to be one of five winning PSP minis titles which Sony will support (with QA help and marketing) to get the games published on the Playstation network and available to millions of users. The game concept was based on earlier research into the PSP games market as part of the Games Design Module (MA User Experience Design) and the idea of ‘Marama and the Golden Egg’ for a side scrolling puzzle adventure type game. As we explored the concept with early prototypes it became clear that using a Flare in a dark cave was central to the game experience, and the name for the game was born. During development I conducted heuristic testing of the game mechanics and controls, benchmarking the concept against current PSP mini titles from the same genre, and usability testing. Our submission was selected by Sony from many entries received from several Universities across Europe, as one of five that would get their support to be published on the Playstation Network Store.
